The story of Professor Sergio Costa and Gracie Barra Boca Raton.
Professor Sergio Costa is the proud owner of Gracie Barra Coral Springs, Gracie Barra Boca Raton and Gracie Barra Boynton Beach. A celebrated competitor and IBJJF World Bronze Medal champion, he knows what grit and resilience are. He learned those lessons a long time ago.
He lost his father at thirteen. At sixteen, a friend brought him to a Jiu-Jitsu school in Boa Vista, Roraima. He never left the mat after that. The path to black belt wasn't easy. He injured his knee, his shoulder, his hand, and there were stretches where he wondered if he'd make it. When the belt finally came, something changed. He started teaching a few classmates on a friend's rooftop in Rio, tracking dues in a notebook. That notebook was the beginning of everything that came next.
Today, he's a US citizen, a Gracie Barra multi-school owner and a regional leader who has built his life around Jiu-Jitsu. Learn more about Professor Sergio in this month's school owner spotlight.
